Polylang was a sponsor at WordCamp Europe in Basel

At the beginning of June 2025, the city of Basel in Switzerland hosted WordCamp Europe, one of the most eagerly awaited events in the WordPress community. For three days, thousands of web enthusiasts share, collaborate and celebrate the WordPress ecosystem. Polylang regularly sponsors WordCamps, whether local or European, because we deeply believe in the strength of this community. Here, we’d like to share the highlights from this WordCamp.

What is a WordCamp ?

WordCamps come in different formats: local, regional and international. All share the same philosophy: contribution, experience sharing and interest in open source.

A WordCamp is a community conference focused on the WordPress open source content management system. WordCamps are organised by volunteers from the local community and take place all over the world. Their aim is simple: to create an inclusive space where users, developers, designers, agencies, bloggers and other web professionals can meet, learn from each other and contribute to the development of WordPress.

WordCamp Europe: an international scope

WordCamp Europe (also known as WCEU) is the largest WordCamp outside the USA. Every year, it brings together several thousand participants from all over Europe and beyond. The 2025 edition in Basel was a success, with over 2,000 participants, some 30 contribution tables and some 50 international speakers.

The WCEU takes place in three phases:

  • Contributor Day: a day dedicated to contributing to the WordPress project. Participants gather in thematic groups (development, design, translation, documentation, accessibility, support, etc.) to collaborate and improve the CMS. It’s a great opportunity to get tangibly involved in the open source project, whatever your level of expertise. It’s also a day for newcomers who have never contributed to WordPress before.
  • Two days of conferences: sessions, workshops and panels on topics ranging from development and digital marketing to content creation and accessibility.
  • Informal meeting: socializing and networking.

The key role of sponsors in a WordCamp

Without sponsors, WordCamps would simply not exist. Access to the event is deliberately kept affordable to encourage as many people as possible to take part. This model relies on the involvement of financial partners, but not only.

We’ve been sponsoring WordCamp Europe since 2017, and this year was no exception. As a sponsor, we actively support the WordPress community by financing logistics, space, contribution tools, etc.

We can meet professionals of all profiles: developers, freelancers, agencies, plugin designers, SEO experts, etc. We gather concrete feedback from users. And we reinforce our reputation and brand image with a qualified and committed audience.

Highlights of WordCamp Europe 2025

The program : something for everyone

The WordCamp Europe 2025 program perfectly illustrated the diversity and richness of the WordPress ecosystem:

Contributor Day (June 5): Participants contributed to the WordPress project in dedicated groups (development, translation, design, accessibility, documentation, etc.). A highlight of community involvement.

Two days of conferences and workshops (June 6-7):

More than 45 conferences spread over two tracks, covering topics such as the WordPress community, development, business, accessibility, artificial intelligence, SEO, design and E-commerce.

Practical workshops to learn about concrete tools and techniques.

This dense program contributed to making this edition a technical and human event.

The conferences have been recorded and can be viewed on WordPress TV.

Here are a few highlights from our experience as a sponsor in Basel:

Two of our employees were particularly involved in the event: one volunteered to help with on-site organization, while the other contributed to the Core table at Contributor Day.

We had quite a few visitors to our stand. Many came to ask technical questions, share their projects or simply chat.

The feedback we received from our users was invaluable: face-to-face exchanges with users enabled us to identify concrete areas for improvement in our products.

The atmosphere at WordCamp is always unique

One of the most striking aspects of WordCamp Europe is undoubtedly its atmosphere: professional, of course, but first and foremost human. Exchanges are natural, friendly and oriented towards sharing. Whether you’re a multinational or a freelancer, there’s room for everyone to contribute.

It’s also an opportunity to meet the faces behind the tools you use every day, to hear about tomorrow’s trends, and to draw inspiration from best practices in development, design and content.

Why will polylang continue to sponsor WordCamps?

Our commitment as a sponsor doesn’t stop with this edition. As WordPress is at the heart of our business, supporting its ecosystem is a matter of course for us.

It’s quality visibility for us. Presenting our brand in such a credible and specialized setting is a powerful lever.

These events strengthen our ties with the community and our users.

A WordCamp is an excellent barometer for future trends.

We believe in a free and open web. It’s a concrete contribution to open source.

To sum up, WordCamp Europe 2025 in Basel was one of the highlights of our year. As a sponsor, we came away with invaluable feedback, strong human connections and renewed motivation to support and grow the WordPress community.

We’d like to thank the organizers, the volunteers, the other sponsors and all the participants for the rich exchanges. We look forward to the 2026 edition! In fact, the venue for the 2026 edition is already known! See you in Krakow, Poland!
